Let’s Hit the Beach
Today, we set out to have lunch at Bad Boys for their Wednesday special, Southern Fried Chicken. We had been planning this ever since we realized we missed it last Wednesday! There’s no real fried chicken around these parts, so I was totally psyched when I learned that Bad Boys had it on their menu. Upon arrival, I asked the waiter if they truly did had Southern Fried Chicken today. He assured me that they were serving today’s special. Yes! I could already taste the crunchy, greasy goodness!
We ordered margaritas. The marg on the left is a small marg on the rocks with fresh lime juice and Don Julio. At $50 pesos, it was quite tasty. On the right, is the standard marg — large, frozen, house tequila, $70 pesos. Tasted pretty nasty IMO, but John managed to drink it down.

Quick Peek at Playacar & Beyond
I had a business meeting in Playacar yesterday, so I snapped a few photos while I was out and about.

Ejido Neighborhood
On Saturday, we walked to the Peanut Pet Shelter for their weekly wash day. The shelter is located in the Ejido, a neighborhood on the west side of the highway. The word ejido means land belonging to the people or community land. In the past, in other parts of Mexico, some foreigners have lost their money when they unknowingly invested in ejido land, and later found the land could not be titled. Here in Playa, my understanding is that ejido land is being titled only to Mexicans. After land has been titled to a Mexican for a certain period of time (a year I think), the title can then be transferred to a foreigner. More information about ejido land.
The Ejido neighborhood in Playa is very diverse, and these photos are by no means representative of the entire area. Just a little glimpse.

Looks like Super City, a convenience store chain owned by Soriana, is gonna give Oxxo a run for its money in Playa del Carmen. At the corner of Avenue 30 & Calle 28, across from Dona Mary.

Empty Storefronts
There’s so much construction going on in Playa del Carmen, especially on the north end where we started today’s walk. Just about all the new condo buildings on and around 5th Avenue have empty storefronts on the first floor. Right now, these areas are not getting a whole lot of foot traffic, so it’ll be interesting to see how these fill up.
