Super City Influx

Looks like Super City, a convenience store chain owned by Soriana, is gonna give Oxxo a run for its money in Playa del Carmen. At the corner of Avenue 30 & Calle 28, across from Dona Mary.

Hogar Pizza has good reliable pizza. You gotta love their 2 for the price of 1 pizza deal on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays! Plus, they deliver.

Getting bloodwork done at Laclicsa is a dream! Clean, air-conditioned facilities, gentle and friendly nurses. No appointment is necessary, just walk in and they’ll generally take you in a matter of minutes! Results are normally available in 24 hours or less. We’ve paid $30 for a cholesterol test and $20 for a thyroid test. We’ve always gone in with a physician referral, but I imagine that is not required. Some basic Spanish would be helpful though.

This is the lot between San Francisco and Walmart. For a while, I had been hearing it was to be a Costco. However, it now appears that the first level will be a shopping plaza called Xop-Inn Plaza. In the Maya language, the letter ‘X’ is pronounced ’sh’. My, aren’t we clever! Most likely condos will be built above the shops. What else is new?

We got a breakfast of frozen Mochaccinos and fresh pastries from Pane Express. The croissants were still warm! Yum. Also, they have about 12 different flavors of Blue Bell ice cream and waffle cones!

An Aerosaab plane. Aerosaab Airlines does scenic flights and private charters.

New modern building across from the airport and near the northern entrance to Playacar. So not Playa-like!

Dracula’s Dinner Theatre says they’re opening soon. For real this time. ;)

More construction. This is on 15th Avenue between Calle 8 & 10, across from the Zocalo and just west of Plaza Pelicanos.

Empty Storefronts

There’s so much construction going on in Playa del Carmen, especially on the north end where we started today’s walk. Just about all the new condo buildings on and around 5th Avenue have empty storefronts on the first floor. Right now, these areas are not getting a whole lot of foot traffic, so it’ll be interesting to see how these fill up.
